Designing this one was a lot of fun.  The concept was three blocks stacked on top of each other.  It plays with ideas of interior and exterior space, and solid and hollow volumes.  I could actually see myself living in something like this.

Today I was playing with the idea of an extruded quarter-circle shell that could house a simple loft dwelling.  The head space isn’t optimal in the sleeping loft, but I’ve seen sleeping lofts before with low head clearance, so I know it is workable.

Today’s design is a sculptural piece that plays off ideas of horizontal and vertical elements.  If there’s one thing I’m not too satisfied with is that the top floor feels cramped.  Well, this is only the 12th day.  I still have a whole year to figure out how to strike a balance between form and function…

Here I put a half-circle extruded roof over a glass box.  The plan is fairly open and simple with a loft bedroom above.

Today’s design was actually inspired by a talk I heard Glenn Murcutt give several years ago.  He spoke about how humans these days are disconnected from their outside environments and how interacting with the weather and the seasons is good for us (though he said it much more eloquently).  Here I’ve devoted half of the building to the functions of living and the other half is circulation that requires the occupants to go outside to move from one level to the next.

I like the way the floor plan on these turned out.  It seems spacious and I like the openings from the second floor down to the first floor.

Today I got the idea to design a building that’s half underground and accentuate the stair, which takes up half of the cube in this design.

Today I was playing with the idea of only using two-thirds of the cube.  So, I did my best to carry this two-thirds notion through the whole design.

Today I essentially just rotated yesterday’s design 90 degrees.  It feels a bit more spacious, and much simpler.  I was rushed today, so I think the widows could use more work.

Today I made a dwelling that is entirely elevated above ground.
